Rolf Penner-Like all things with the CWB, director elections are not like normal elections, they are more like a leadership race within a political party. To win you need 50% plus one of the votes, it’s called a preferential ballot system. You rank or number the choices in order of your personal preference.
The theory is that running multiple candidates will not so much split the vote but hopefully get more people voting on your side of the issue. People are more likely to vote for people they know from their own geographic area.
So if the folks around Macgregor prefer Curtis Sims as their choice candidate they should rank him as number 1 but then they should rank Rolf Penner as number 2. The same is true of those who like Barry Reimer as their number 1 candidate.
People should also be aware that they don’t have to rank all of the candidates, if there is someone on the ticket they absolutely don’t want to get the director job they should leave that box blank.
If say Curtis then gets the least amount of votes but no one else has over 50% then they go back to all of the ballots that marked Curtis number one and count up all of the number two choices and add those to the remaining candidates. This process continues until somebody gets over 50% of the vote.
It’s not simple, but nothing ever is when it comes to the CWB. And that’s why its important to mark down a number beside all choice candidates and leave the box’s beside the monopoly candidates empty.
